Today I see the main character as an also another good manifestation of a philosopher or man of science who thinks that 'cause he has the theoretic true authority, everyone is subject to admitted it, the true that he claims to carry it. But the true authority that a philosopher has is not the same authority that a ruler has or a prophet, which is the imposition authority based on his credibility and confidence as a ruler or a prophet, i. e., your testimony and promise. The philosopher imposition is just made yourself comprehended to make possible comprehensible your true, and nothing more; 'cause his kind of true can't be imposed but viewed.
Raskólnikov thinks that, in your dreams, by having the true about the human nature and your relations divided between two polos, this gives him the ruler authority or prophetic to impose it to your neighbor, acting as it was the most universal true in the world, including by thinking that won't be consequences even committing bad things in excuse. It's no coincidence that his aspirations mentioned in the book was Napoleon Bonaparte and Muhammad prophet. He wants be them but being the opposite of them in terms of possible acting. Bonaparte and Mahomet didn't need to be intelligible at all to give orders and are obeyed.
